The table below shows calculated charge times for common RC aircraft packs. All figures assume charging from fully depleted with a 10% efficiency overhead for the CC/CV tail phase. Real times vary slightly by charger model and cell condition.

Why the C-rating on the charger label doesn't match the charge rate

The C-rating printed on LiPo packs refers to the discharge rate, not the charge rate. A 45C pack can discharge at 45× its capacity — but that same pack may only be rated to charge at 1C. The charge C-rating is often printed separately or listed in the spec sheet. When it isn't, 1C is the correct default. See the charging guide for the full procedure.

At the standard 1C rate, a LiPo battery takes approximately 60–70 minutes to charge from fully depleted. A 2200mAh pack charges at 2.2A and takes about 65–70 minutes. Charging at 2C halves the time to roughly 35 minutes but increases heat and accelerates pack wear.
1C means the charge current in amps equals the pack's capacity in amp-hours. A 2200mAh (2.2Ah) pack at 1C charges at 2.2A. A 3200mAh pack at 1C charges at 3.2A. The 1C rate is the universal safe rate — it applies regardless of cell count or pack brand.
Only if the pack's label explicitly states a 2C or higher charge rating. Most entry-level packs are rated for 1C charging only. Charging above the rated C produces excess heat, accelerates internal resistance buildup, and reduces total cycle life. When the pack label doesn't specify a charge C-rating, default to 1C.
Balance chargers use a constant-current / constant-voltage (CC/CV) profile. The calculator estimates the constant-current phase. As cells approach full voltage, the charger switches to constant-voltage and tapers the current down — this tail phase adds 10–20% to total charge time. The 1.1× efficiency factor in this calculator accounts for a typical tail phase.
Check the charger's maximum output current (listed in amps on the label or spec sheet) and the power supply wattage. Divide wattage by pack voltage to get the practical current limit — a 50W charger on a 3S pack (11.1V) caps at roughly 4.5A, regardless of what the charger dial allows.
